The Seal Hunter
Young Kulowiyi was only sixteen years old. But he was now considered to be a man. He had stood motionless for six hours on the flat ice watching for signs of a seal. His grandfather had taught him how to place a feather over a tiny hole carved in the snow. When the feather moved, it meant a seal had surfaced for a breath of air.
Finally after six hours the feather had finally moved, and moved again. It was a seal!
Quickly and silently he raised his spear and plunged into the opening.
His family would not go hungry this week.
